Jas + Scott

Jas and Scott truly just wanted a party. They thought carefully about how they could achieve that and what we could include to ensure their wedding felt the most real it could to them, and they nailed it!

My recollections:

On a stunning April afternoon at Hazelmere Homestead guests were greeted to the funky sounds of Trav Collins, a favourite musician of Jas and Scott’s. Jas arrived on the back of a Ute and then entered with her bestwoman Alicia and Alicia’s Mum.

We kicked off their ceremony with a champagne toast to the lyrics from The Darkness “I believe in a thing called love”:

“I believe in a thing called love
Just listen to the rhythm of my heart
There's a chance we could make it now
We'll be rocking 'til the sun goes down
I believe in a thing called love, hoo, ooh-hoo
Guitar”

This was chosen as it was an absolute favourite of Jas and Scott’s and they planned on this being the last song of the night. I love to be able to tie in different parts of your wedding to ensure it feels like one whole event, not something that is chopped up into sections. The flow and sentimental aspects are often overlooked, but don’t need to be.

We shared great banter throughout the story picking apart their dating profiles. I took the opportunity to welcome Scott’s sister Tess, who both wanted to involve in their ceremony as she has had a huge impact on them as a couple, but couldn’t quite find the right solution, so when I found out that Tess aka cupid had written Scott’s dating profile, an opportunity arose to welcome Tess forward to share a little story.

The show stopping moment was when we welcomed forward Scott’s daughter E, to share a letter she had prepared. It was full of love, laughter, sass and advice and absolutely stole the show. Both Jas and Scott completely amazed and their guests in stitches.

Up next was their shared vows, custom ring exchange with some hints of driving, pirate and The Darkness promises and then a big kiss to seal the deal.

It was then up to E to announce Scott and Jas back down the aisle into married life as we played the song “ Son of a Bitch” by Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats. In the meantime, Trav had set up a custom guitar that Scott had prepared to gift Jas as she they arrived at the end of the aisle. Benny ran upstairs of the house to take the group photo from the balcony.

Jas and Scott went off to pop some bottles and pop confetti as their guests loved the lawns of the homestead and the sweet tunes of Trav in the background.

Through our planning meeting we decided with no daylight savings and instead of doing a “fake sparkler exit” later in the night, which don’t work we would instead organise a sparkler entrance into the reception space. This brought a really cool energy and there wasn’t as many intoxicated guests so less hassles.

What followed was true emotion and kick ass speeches. Jas and Scott chose not to share a first dance, so we orchestrated a group photo on the dancefloor before dropping earth, wind and Fires classic September to officially open the dancefloor.

I helped with some tunes and witnessed Benny take on of my favourite photos of the year when Jas and Scott took 2 seconds on a packed dancefloor to embrace each other, placing their foreheads together and taking in all the madness of their wedding day to make a moment. The great photographers will sense these moments and capture them without anyone noticing.

A small excerpt of Jas and Scott’s early dating:

“Following on from a right swipe, epic weekend of banter and some goal setting, one included a Japanese beer and the other the mighty Adelaide crows, it was decided that Scott would cook a home cooked meal for the two.

As Scott waited eagerly for Jas to turn up to his place, he decided to ease the nerves and chat with a friend, this eventually disrupted as Jas arrived, quite eager to impress Scott needed to jump off the phone and quite elegantly ushered the following sentence.

Actually, before I mention the exact words and as we have a lot of little ears for the exact quote. I’m going to replace one of the words with CLUCKING. You’ll hear why soon.

As mentioned, Scott was eager to jump off the phone and greet the wonderful Jas, his statement to the anonymous friend on the phone was as follows: (pause)

“I have to go, she’s here and she’s CLUCKING hot!”

Thanks to Jas and Scott for inviting me to your wedding and trusting some of the absolute fun stuff that we put together. Thanks legends!
